Flatland and the Fourth Dimension

In the past 48 hours, Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions has shown up in my life in the form of an email, a mention in a personal conversation and a newsletter. Well, as any good observer of life knows, things come in threes and when something like this occurs, it is a good idea to investigate further.

A friend has agreed to loan me a copy of Flatland so I can read it, and for anyone interested in learning more about the book there’s an excellent wikipedia article here.

But in my brief investigations so far, what has been the most pleasing is the seven minute video of the late great Carl Sagan explaining the fourth dimension by using the story of Flatland as starting point.
